South African rower Lawrence Brittain spoke out for this year’s World Lymphoma Awareness Day. It’s a disease the 26-year-old knows all too well.

Read about 11 signs and symptoms of lymphoma here.

Lawrence was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October 2015 after thinking he picked up a waterborne illness. He underwent six rounds of chemotherapy before getting the “all-clear” in February this year.

Not only did Lawrence beat the disease, he went on to win a silver medal in the Men’s Pairs event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio with his rowing partner Shaun Keeling.

World Lymphoma Awareness Day was September 15.

Learn about managing the side effects of chemotherapy here.
