Planning ahead can help you understand some of the costs involved. It will allow you to speak to your health care team and insurance company about how much you’ll need to pay, if there are cheaper options available and if you can get help with your medical costs.

According to the American Cancer Society, these are some of the care areas you may have to pay or co-pay for:

  • Visits with your health care provider
  • Lab tests such as blood test and urine tests
  • Clinic visits for treatment
  • Diagnosis or treatment procedures, which may include different doctors
  • Imaging tests such as MRI and CT scans
  • Radiation therapy treatment
  • Drug costs, including chemotherapy treatment
  • Hospital stays, including consultant fees, nurses, drugs, tests, procedures, food
  • Surgeries, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, pathologists, nurses, operating theater hire, equipment, tests and much more
  • Home care, including drugs, visits from nurses and other health care professionals, equipment, etc.
