The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Greater Bay Area Chapter is launching its March 2016 North Bay Man & Woman of the Year campaign to raise funds for blood cancer research and cures.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s widest voluntary health agency devoted to blood cancer. The organization’s mission is to ultimately cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and improve the lives of those suffering from these diseases.
The kickoff party will take place at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa with four 2016 North Bay Man & Woman of the Year candidates competing to raise funds: Kevin Afman, Stacey Biagi, Karen Peterson, and Eddie Zentner. The four candidates will compete in honor of blood cancer survivors 2016 North Bay Boy & Girl of the Year, Marlon V., from Calistoga, and Haley G., from Novato, respectively.
The final candidates chosen from those nominated will then form their own teams and use their network and creativity to raise funds. The candidates and team members get their own personalized fundraising website to reach out to their contacts, friends, and community. Chapter staff is responsible for helping candidates and teams plan their goals and serve as fundraising consultants.
Throughout the campaign, events and parties are hosted such as the Kickoff Celebration, the Midpoint Event, and the Grand Finale, that enable candidates to meet their fellow contestants and other local stakeholders.
The Man & Woman of the Year event is an annual 10-week fundraising competition involving community leaders who gather for one reason: to use their leadership experience to raise money that will help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. Every dollar raised counts as one vote. The winning titles will be awarded to the man and woman with the most votes by the campaign’s finish line.
The fundraising campaign will end with a Grand Finale Celebration on May 19 at the Jacuzzi Family Winery, and tickets can be purchased online here.
Other big LLS fundraising campaigns include Team in Training; Light the Night Walk; School & Youth; and the Leukemia Cup Regatta. Partners range from Nike to Disney.
