The recently developed Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) Recertification Program has been launched by the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) with the first in a series of five Emerging Issues in Oncology Webinars.
As announced in a press release, on Feb. 25, Updates from ASH will emphasize the debate of considerable research developments from the American Society of Hematology annual meeting. Webinar speaker Steve Stricker, PhD, Pharm.D., BCOP, Associate Director of U.S. Medical Affairs for Takeda Oncology, will guide participants to:
- Identify and select data presented as part of the scientific programming of interest to hematology and oncology pharmacists;
- Examine important discoveries in hematology, which are expected to impact clinical practice; and
- Summarize research findings of key abstracts pertinent to the field of hematology and oncology.
Selected abstracts will feature state-of-the-art research in stem cell transplantation, myelodysplastic syndrome, leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
HOPA, a nonprofit to assist oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners to provide the best possible cancer care, supports research, conducts educational conferences, and advocates for health policy issues.
The Updates in Oncology Webinars are a part of what pharmacists need to complete their BCOP recertification. The webinars will cover recent topics and timely data that had an impact in the whole oncology pharmacy spectrum. HOPA will attribute 38 credits of education annually in four main components. The program has been delineated by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Specialty Council on Oncology Pharmacy.
Each component will address the knowledge statements, tasks, and domains as published in the Content Outline for the Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification Examination:
- Oncology Pharmacy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course;
- Oncology Pharmacy Home Study Syllabus for Recertification;
- Oncology Pharmacy Webinar Series;
- BCOP Clinical Sessions.
The four-arm professional development program will provide several opportunities for those who choose to recertify by continuing education to earn more than the 100 hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit.
The next webinar will be available for 1CH of ACPE and BCOP. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has accredited the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
After the presentation, Updates from ASH will have an audio recording available online for on-demand home study.
