4. Sugars and sweets cause cancer.

At the other end of the spectrum, there’s a misconception that sugar feeds the cancer cells in a patients’ system. This is an oversimplification and should be cleared up. “Sugar” is a broad term, ranging from simple sugars found in plants to candies and sweets solely made out of glucose and fructose.

All sugars are carbohydrates, and whether you’re eating a delicious dessert or eating an apple, these carbs get broken down and release glucose and fructose through your body.

All the cells in our body use glucose for energy. Our body doesn’t get to pick which cells get more or less glucose, although cancer cells, since they’re developing faster than the rest, may have a higher demand for it.
