At first, Carole thought her symptoms were caused by menopause — she was feeling fatigued, and suffering from night sweats and hot flashes — but as time progressed, her symptoms changed. After finding black in her stools, she consulted her doctor.

The doctors initially thought that Carole may have stomach cancer but further tests revealed she actually had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Carole talks candidly about the shock of her diagnosis and how difficult it was to tell her children she was sick. She also speaks about the side effects of treatment, including losing her hair and how that’s only a small part of the road people have to travel to recovery. As her chemotherapy progressed, Carole found it more and more difficult to deal with and it began to take a toll on her, both physically and mentally.

Thankfully, Carole is now in remission and is cancer-free and reflects on some of the things she could have done to make her journey easier such as exercising and not returning to work so quickly.
