Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Burlington Stores Kick Off Fundraising Campaign

Every three minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and every nine minutes someone in the country dies of a blood cancer. Unlike many diseases, there is no way to prevent or screen for blood cancers.

With September marking Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Burlington Stores have launched their 2016 point-of-sale fundraising campaign in all 570 Burlington stores around the country, featuring young blood cancer survivors. Funds raised will support patients with research, education, and access to affordable treatments.

Burlington Stores is the No. 1 National Corporate Partner and Honored Friend of LLS’s Light The Night Walks fundraising campaign that gathers families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors and those who have died from the disease. The walks began early this month and will continue in communities across the country and will raise funds for research.

“We are very grateful to Burlington’s leadership and their thousands of associates for their continued dedication to LLS’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, especially during Blood Cancer Awareness Month,” LLS President and CEO Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, said in a press release. “The contributions made by Burlington over the past 15 years have helped LLS fund research to advance more breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients. They are helping us save lives not someday, but today.”

Tom Kingsbury, Burlington Stores chairman and CEO, said Burlington is committed to improving the communities where associates live and work, and the company is proud to be a long-time partner of LLS in the battle against blood cancers.

“Thanks to the kindness of our thousands of associates and millions of customers, we have been able to raise more than $25 million to fund research that helps to save lives,” he said. “We are looking forward to another successful campaign, raising much needed funds for life-saving treatments.”

Customers who shop at any Burlington store from now through Nov. 30 can donate at checkout to support LLS in its mission to find cures for blood cancers.
